Wood Trims and Moldings

Baseboards/Wall base and Quarter Rounds

Quarter rounds and wall base moldings are used to cover the expansion gap left against a wall. If you do not have baseboards already installed, you could use a wall base or quarter rounds. However, if a base is already installed, you can use quarter rounds to cover the expansion gap. You can buy moldings that complement the hardwood flooring you are purchasing. Simply attach either molding to the wall using finishing nails. Please note that you should not purchase the smaller quarter round or shoe molding that is sold in most home stores, as it will not adequately cover the expansion gap. We also sell the baseboard you need to make your home into a showplace.

T-Molding

T-Molding is another common type of transition molding. These are the wood moldings used when you are going to transition from one floor to another, provided both floors are the same height. For example, if you install flooring in your living room and hallway, and then decide to install flooring in your bedrooms the following year, the T-Molding would be used at the doorways where new flooring meets the existing. Another example might be where the new floor meets ceramic or porcelain tile at the same finished height. If one of the manufactured home sub floors is lower, you might end up with one of the lips snapping off. Additionally, as we noted previously in this example, make sure to leave the correct expansion, even when the flooring meets these moldings. That is what the extended lips are for.

End Molding

This is to be used up against sliding glass door tracks, a front or back exterior door's metal threshold, or mirrored walls. End moldings are used anywhere the floor ends. It can also be used around fireplaces, or anywhere quarter rounds are not practical. It is important to remember to maintain the proper 3/8" expansion gap from the floor to the end molding.

Reducer

The reducer (or some times called threshold) is used when you are transitioning from a wood floor to a surface that is lower, such as vinyl or painted concrete. It can also be used from a higher floor (marble) down to the wood. It is important to remember to maintain the proper expansion gap from the wood to the reducer strip.

Molding Track

A molding track is the plastic channel that must be used with the reducer molding, end cap, and T-molding. It provides a secure attachment point for transition moldings. Simply secure the track to the sub-floor using liquid nails or equivalent, wait until the glue dries, and snap the molding into the track. Remember to maintain a 3/8" gap from the wood to the molding into the track. (The track may also be secured to the sub-floor with screws).

Stair Cases

Average stairs 42" or 46" wide. Average staircases consist of 16 steps. When figuring out square footage, you would figure 10 Sq. Ft. per step. This would include the waste factor. Because of the way they are installed, no padding is needed. In some instances, steps could be larger and you must talk with the customer concerning the width in order to calculate the correct square footage.
